WEPOS 1.1 & POS for .NET 1.1

Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service 1.1 was launched with worldwide support from more than 50 retail and hospitality industry system partners, helping address the industry`s short-term challenges, maximizing their use of legacy peripherals, and helping retailers plan for long-term investments. Windows Embedded for Point of Service version 1.1 provides updated support for the UnifiedPOS retail peripheral standard version 1.9 and expanded support for legacy device peripherals such as Coin Dispenser, Keylock, Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR), POS Power, Scale, Signature Capture and Tone Indicator. This enables retailers to continue using existing retail peripherals while point-of-service systems are upgraded.

2. Microsoft POS for.NET 1.1

1) Support for UPOS 1.9

· POS for .NET in WEPOS 1.0 supported UPOS 1.8
· POS for .NET 1.1 supports UPOS 1.9, which adds:
  New API to support device firmware updates
  Page Mode Printing
  Credit Authorization Terminal (CAT) with electronic money
  Check Scanner contrast adjustment
  Scale “live weight”
  Updates to POS Power for battery-powered POS systems

2) anded support for legacy peripherals

· Allows interop between .NET applications and legacy, COM-based OPOS COs/SOs
· POS for .NET previously supported interop for 8 device classes
· POS for .NET 1.1 adds:

  Coin dispenser
  Keylock
  Magnetic Inc Character Recognition (MICR)
  POS Power
  Scale
  Signature Capture
  Tone Indicator

3) Support for .NET Framework 2.0

· POS for .NET 1.1 supports:
  Applications which target the 2.0 framework
  SOs compiled for the 2.0 framework
· .NET Framework 2.0 does not ship with WEPOS
  Customers/partners will need to obtain and install it separately
· Pre-post setup command file functionality
  Allows command files to be executed prior to and after setup
  Enables more robust disk partitioning functionality than setup in WEPOS 1.0
· Expanded support for mass storage devices
  In WEPOS 1.0, some mass storage devices were not fully supported
  This is fixed in WEPOS 1.1
· Expanded support for mass storage devices
  In WEPOS 1.0, some mass storage devices were not fully supported

4) Pre-post setup command file functionality


· Allows command files to be executed prior to and after setup
· Enables more robust disk partitioning functionality than setup in WEPOS 1.0

5) Expanded support for mass storage devices


· In WEPOS 1.0, some mass storage devices were not fully supported
· This is fixed in WEPOS 1.1

6) Available as a free download for installation on Windows XP Professional-based POS systems

Windows Embedded POSReady 2009

Microsoft released Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 in January 2009. Based on the technologies available in Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, it is an easy-to-use point-of-service platform optimized for the retail industry and designed to seamlessly connect POS solutions with peripherals, servers and services. As an important building block for smart, connected, service-oriented POS solutions on devices such as cash registers, service kiosks, digital signage, cash ATMs and fuel pumps, this release offered new features, updates and enhancements that focused on three areas.

WEPOS (Windows Embedded for Point of Service)

WEPOS (Windows Embedded for Point of Service) is a standard, retail-optimized operating system platform designed for retail point-of-service systems. Based on the technologies available in Windows Embedded Standard with Service Pack 2, Windows Embedded for Point of Service enables the Microsoft Smarter Retail Initiative and is an easy-to-use point-of-service platform optimized for the retail industry.
