Windows XP Embedded includes the Windows Embedded Studio tool set which has been completely redesigned based on customer feedback, usability testing, and technology advancements, to provide a more rapid and complete development solution. The following tools are included with Windows XP Embedded, as part of the Windows Embedded Studio: Target Designer provides a development environment that you use to create a bootable runtime image for a target device. Component Designer is the development tool that enables you to turn your unique application, service or driver into a component definition which can then be incorporated into your run-time image. Database Manager facilitates easy management of the component database and the repositories, which are used by both Component Designer and Target Designer tools. Target Analyzer is a probe utility enables automated analysis of your target device, eliminating the need to collect device specific details manually. The information collected by Target Analyzer can be imported into Target Designer to create a corresponding configuration specific to your device that can be built into a runtime image. Other utilities that assist with device deployment and maintenance, including: Device Update Agent (DUA) enables users to service deployed Windows XP Embedded devices. DUA can run local or remote scripts that modify device settings or update system binaries. System Deployment Image (SDI) Manager enables users to deploy images to virtual disks, eliminating need for increased client-side memory. By using System Deployment Image to Hard Drive (SDI2HD), users can easily deploy image updates to field by capturing image on hard drive and subsequently transferring it to a removable storage medium, such as a CD.
