Windowsfordevices.com May 25, 2004 SanDisk claims it has produced the world's first SD card to include both Flash memory and WLAN communications (802.11b/Wi-Fi) on a single card. SanDisk says its new combo SD card is compatible with devices that have SDIO-enabled slots and that run Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating systems. The card includes 256 MB of Flash, enabling users to download large files directly to the card without using the handheld's internal memory. The card ships with consumer and enterprise-grade security solutions, including WEP, 802.1x, PSK, and WPA on the Windows CE platform, according to SanDisk. It uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) Wireless LAN technology to provide bandwidths of up to 11Mbps and ranges of up to 800 feet depending on environment. The 256MB+Wi-Fi SD Combination card is expected to ship in the next 30 days at a suggested list price of $129. It will be initially available through popular e-commerce websites in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
