Microsoft reports 33% growth in embedded revenues

Windowfordevices.com Apr. 22, 2004 Microsoft released quarterly financial results today for its third fiscal quarter which ended March 31, 2004. Total revenue was $9.18 billion, a 17 percent increase over the corresponding quarter last year. Operating income for the quarter was $1.28 billion, compared to $2.74 billion in the prior year, while net income for the quarter was $1.32 billion, compared with $2.14 billion for the prior year. These results include stock-based compensation expenses of $748 million, and legal charges of $2.53 billion related to the settlement of the Sun Microsystems litigation and a fine imposed by the European Commission, Microsoft said. Revenue in the Mobile and Embedded Devices segment was $61 million for the quarter, up 33 percent over the same quarter the previous year. The Mobile and Embedded Devices segment includes Pocket PC, SmartPhones, Handheld PC, other Mobility, Windows embedded device operating systems, and MapPoint, and represents just 0.66 percent of Microsoft's total revenue.
