Apr. 1, 2003 Microsoft Media2Go is a software reference platform and set of technologies based on the Windows CE .NET operating system, designed to power a variety of consumer electronics devices that extend the Windows XP Media experience. The first device type to be based on Media2Go is a Portable Media Player (PMP) that allows users to experience all of their video, music and pictures on the go. PMPs will include a high-capacity HDD and have a QVGA landscape display with a/v out enabling the device to both play content on the device and project that content through TVs and home and car a/v systems and stereos. We expect that OEMs will also use Media2Go software to build audio-only devices as well as add a variety of hardware options including DVD players, larger displays, wireless support, and additional applications.
